BAGHDAD, Feb. 25 (Xinhua) -- A total of 13 people, including eight Iraqi soldiers, were killed, and five others were injured on Wednesday in a multi-vehicle collision on an international highway in Iraq's western province of Anbar.

Lieutenant Colonel Salah al-Dulaimi of the Anbar traffic police told Xinhua that the accident occurred near the city of Fallujah, some 50 km west of Baghdad, due to high speed.

The Iraqi Defense Ministry confirmed in a statement that eight of the deceased were Iraqi soldiers, who died alongside five civilians in the accident.

A medical source from Fallujah hospital told Xinhua that the five survivors are currently receiving treatment.

Traffic accidents are frequently reported in Iraq due to road conditions and non-compliance with safety regulations.
