Chinese premier congratulates Ali al-Zaidi on inauguration as Iraqi PM

BEIJING, May 22 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Li Qiang on Thursday sent a congratulatory message to Ali al-Zaidi on his inauguration as the prime minister of the Republic of Iraq.

In the message, Li said that China and Iraq share a profound traditional friendship, noting that over the 68 years since the establishment of diplomatic ties, bilateral relations have withstood changes in the international and regional landscape and maintained stable and sound development.

The Chinese government values the development of relations between the two countries, and is willing to work with the Iraqi government to consolidate political mutual trust, expand mutually beneficial cooperation in energy, economy and trade, and other fields, and enhance people-to-people exchanges to benefit the peoples of both countries, said Li.
