ABU DHABI, April 15 (Xinhua) -- The United Arab Emirates(UAE) has summoned Iraq's charge d'affaires and handed him a strongly worded protest note over attacks launched from Iraqi territory, the Emirates News Agency (WAM) reported on Wednesday.
According to the report, the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned "in the strongest terms" what it described as continued "terrorist" attacks launched from Iraqi territory by factions, militias, and armed groups affiliated with Iran.
The ministry said that the attacks targeted vital facilities in Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, in violation of their sovereignty and airspace, and constituted a breach of international law, international humanitarian law, and the United Nations Charter. The attacks were carried out despite the announcement of a ceasefire in the U.S.-Israel-Iran conflict, it added.
The protest note warned that such actions threaten regional stability, undermine international efforts, and weaken ongoing initiatives to enhance security in the region.
It also stressed that the incidents have placed relations with Iraq under significant strain, negatively affecting cooperation and ties between Iraq and GCC states.
The ministry emphasized the need for the Iraqi government to halt and prevent all hostile acts originating from its territory, calling for immediate, decisive, and responsible action in accordance with relevant international and regional laws.
